About TileDB, Inc.
TileDB, Inc. was founded in February 2017 to further develop and maintain the TileDB project created at the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data (ISTC-BD), which was a collaboration between Intel Labs and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). TileDB is a novel system for managing massive multi-dimensional array data that frequently arise from scientific applications.
Team
Stavros Papadopoulos, Ph.D
Founder & CEO
Prior to founding TileDB, Inc. in February 2017, Dr. Stavros Papadopoulos was a Senior Research Scientist at the Intel Parallel Computing Lab, and a member of the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data at MIT CSAIL for three years. He also spent about two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Stavros received his PhD degree in Computer Science at HKUST under the supervision of Prof. Dimitris Papadias, and held a postdoc fellow position at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Prof. Yufei Tao.
Jacob Bolewski
CTO
Jake Bolewski has a B.S. in Bioengineering from Cornell University. He worked in the field of single molecule and super resolution microscopy for 6 years at Cornell, the Jackson Laboratory, and at McMaster University. A self taught programmer, he became interested in programming languages and PL theory after frustrations writing custom analysis and microscope control software. This interest led him to the Julia project where he worked as a research engineer at MIT after leaving grad school in chemical biology. Prior to joining TileDB, Inc. Jake worked as a computer and instrumentation specialist on the US Antarctic research vessel, the Laurence M. Gould.
Tyler Denniston
Director of Engineering
Tyler Denniston's background is largely in systems, including compiler development, virtualization, and checkpointing. Tyler received his S.M. in Computer Science in February 2016 from MIT, where he was a member of the Compilers @ MIT (COMMIT) group under Prof. Saman Amarasinghe. There he worked on a compiler for a distributed stencil DSL targeted at supercomputer-scale image processing and scientific simulations. Prior to attending MIT, Tyler received his B.S. in Computer Science from Northeastern University where he participated in the DMTCP project for distributed userspace checkpointing.
Seth Shelnutt
Director of Infrastructure
Seth Shelnutt received his B.S. in Statistics from the University of Florida. His interests primarily revolve around building systems for massive data handling and manipulation. Seth is a regular contributor to open source software and has worked on developing a new custom storage engine for MariaDB/MySQL. Prior to joining TileDB, Inc., Seth worked as a software engineer at Sprint, a Tier 1 telecommunications company.
Norman Barker
Principal Software Engineer
Norman is a Senior Software Engineer at TileDB. Prior to joining TileDB, Norman focused on spatial indexing and image processing, and held engineering positions at Cloudant, IBM and Mapbox. He has a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Durham, England. In his free time, Norman likes to garden and fix up his old house.

Terry Dontje
Principal Software Engineer
Terry Dontje is a Principal Software Engineer at TileDB. Terry's background is in Parallel Computing where he has worked on systems at all layers from OS, Network Drivers, Middleware (MPI) and Scientific Applications. His work at Sun Microsystems/Oracle involved working with the Open MPI community to productize the MPI library on Solaris. Most recently he worked at New York Genome Center leading the technical team that maintained and supported its Production Genomic Pipeline System.
Isaiah Norton
Senior Software Engineer
Isaiah Norton is a Senior Software Engineer at TileDB. Prior to joining TileDB, he worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital as a research software engineer in medical imaging and surgical navigation. He received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Boston University. He has contributed to a number of open source projects including 3D Slicer and the Julia Language.
Andreas Ntalakas
Senior Software Engineer
Andreas has a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Before joining TileDB he worked as a software engineer at PCCW Global, a Tier 1 telecommunications company. He has also worked for the European Commission, and companies developing ERP systems and embedded software. He has experience working with stream processing pipelines and image processing.
