About TileDB, Inc.
TileDB, Inc. was founded in February 2017 to further develop and maintain the TileDB project created at the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data (ISTC-BD), which was a collaboration between Intel Labs and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). TileDB is a novel system for managing massive multi-dimensional array data that frequently arise from scientific applications.
Team
Stavros Papadopoulos, Ph.D
Founder & CEO
Prior to founding TileDB, Inc. in February 2017, Dr. Stavros Papadopoulos was a Senior Research Scientist at the Intel Parallel Computing Lab, and a member of the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data at MIT CSAIL for three years. He also spent about two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Stavros received his PhD degree in Computer Science at HKUST under the supervision of Prof. Dimitris Papadias, and held a postdoc fellow position at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Prof. Yufei Tao.
Jacob Bolewski
Chief Software Architect
Jake Bolewski has a B.S. in Bioengineering from Cornell University. He worked in the field of single molecule and super resolution microscopy for 6 years at Cornell, the Jackson Laboratory, and at McMaster University. A self taught programmer, he became interested in programming languages and PL theory after frustrations writing custom analysis and microscope control software. This interest led him to the Julia project where he worked as a research engineer at MIT after leaving grad school in chemical biology. Prior to joining TileDB, Inc. Jake worked as a computer and instrumentation specialist on the US Antarctic research vessel, the Laurence M. Gould.
Tyler Denniston
Senior Software Engineer
Tyler Denniston's background is largely in systems, including compiler development, virtualization, and checkpointing. Tyler received his S.M. in Computer Science in February 2016 from MIT, where he was a member of the Compilers @ MIT (COMMIT) group under Prof. Saman Amarasinghe. There he worked on a compiler for a distributed stencil DSL targeted at supercomputer-scale image processing and scientific simulations. Prior to attending MIT, Tyler received his B.S. in Computer Science from Northeastern University where he participated in the DMTCP project for distributed userspace checkpointing.
